Anybody is welcome to stay warm and dry in the basement of School District 46 building next to Town Hall

The cold-weather shelter at 599 Gower Point Road, which is open from 6 p.m. until 8 a.m., has a temporary daytime counterpart. The Town of Gibsons has opened the basement of the School District 46 building for anybody who needs a place to stay warm and dry.
Mayor Beamish brought a laptop computer, a stack of DVDs and a projector from home so people can watch movies. He also took cookies earlier this week, and the town provides sandwiches and coffee.
“We are a community, and that’s what communities do,” he told The Coast Clarion during a short visit to the premises. “Nobody needs to be cold in weather like this.”
The town owns the empty building, which will house several organizations in the future. The shelter will be open from 8:30 until 4:30 until the weather clears up. It is closed today, Thursday, but will open on Friday at 8 a.m. until 4:30 and any day after that when the weather warrants it. Workers from RainCity Housing help out with the temporary shelter.
Bless you Mayor Beamish for your compassion. I’m proud of my town!
