Developer says the aquifer will not be affected; footings will be few feet down and no pilings will be used

Developer Grant Gillies of Target Homes says there is no threat to the aquifer from the underground parking of the proposed building on the lot that is currently the home of the Persephone, the log-salvage boat from the CBC-TVBeachcombers series, in Gibsons Landing.
“We will not go anywhere near the aquifer,” he said in a text to The Coast Clarion. “Our footings [for the underground parking] will be a few feet below the alley grade and there will not be any pilings.”
The building design is for one level of underground parking with 15 stalls at lane level on Molly’s Lane. On the Gower Point Road side, the building will be one floor at street level with a second, ocean-facing mezzanine level on the front half.
Gillies says that Target Homes has discussed its plans for a 7,000 square feet commercial building with the Town of Gibsons’ planning department and that their comments have been incorporated in the design. The project conforms with the zoning bylaw, he says.
“Our plan is to gather enough interest first (of which there is plenty) prior to commencing the development of the building. We will now complete the development permit application process and the ensuing building permit drawings accordingly. Hopefully, we can have a finished product in 14 to 16 months,” he said in an email.
“And I am pleased to hear that the signs are causing quite a stir. The sooner I find tenants or buyers for the space, the sooner the signs come down.”
