After a unfortunate, almost five-month hiatus we are ready and eager to report on things important to our community again
We’re happy to announce The Coast Clarion is publishing again. In this time of fake news, we strive for facts, always keeping in mind there are two sides to every story.
The Coast Clarion is a community news source. You have a story, or an announcement? Contact us. Want to write a story? Please do. Would you like to comment on a story? Welcome! We are all interested in what is going on in our community, and in new viewpoints. It empowers us to participate and use our democratic rights.
As always, we are happy to accept advertisements from small local businesses. We have made some money that way, which, together with donations, we have used to keep the website functioning and to cover expenses, but we need a solid business plan. If we make more money, we can pay our writers and contributors and bring you more news from Sechelt and other places on the Sunshine Coast. For example, we’d like to report on Sunshine Coast Regional District meetings.
We need a publisher — someone who can take The Coast Clarion to the next level. We can do that if we make more money. So far, that has not happened, but not for lack of effort on our part. We are journalists: when the phone rings or somebody drops off a box of interesting documents, business planning takes a back seat.
The job of publisher would be a good fit for a retired marketing professional who supports the idea of an online community newspaper. There is money to be made with online newspapers, and we need somebody who dreams big. Today Gibsons, tomorrow the Sunshine Coast, next week. . .
The elections are coming. We would like to invite all candidates to share innovative and original ideas for a better future on our Coast. We’d like to hear more suggestions for a solution to the water crisis. How do we get more affordable housing? What are we going to do about the garbage problem? The ferries? The roads? Lorne Lewis has made the first contribution in this series with a piece about Chapman Lake and the water crisis. We hope you will submit more.
Enjoy!
Great to see you back, Margot!
Welcome back!
